What's New

Sculpture Trail

The LS11 Sculpture trail will build on the strengths of the previous Lorne Sculpture exhibitions, however for

next year we have reconfigured the trail starting at the pier, hugging the coastline and finishing at the river.

This extension to the trail has revealed some very inspiring sites particularly along Cypress Drive and

throughout the river forest. 40 sculptural projects will be presented with many being large installations.

Artists will incorporate found and fabricated objects, nature, sound and kinetics all responding to the site and

the Lorne environment. The winner receives a $20,000 prize plus one month residency at the Sculpture

Factory in Cork, Ireland.

Sculpturscape

The Lorne Sculpturscape will involve up to 20 artists or artist teams who will be invited to create a site

specific work over a one day period within 7-8 hours on the Sunday of the opening weekend. The brief will

be to respond directly to the Lorne environment, utilizing sites such as the water, sand, rocks and lawn area

along the trail. This will in theory be a sculpture blitz, with the audience being able to see the works being

created over the day. The winner receives a $10,000 prize.

Some of these works would be displayed for one day with others remaining for the length of the exhibition.

This of course will depend on safety, materials and taking the elements into consideration.

Indoor Sculpture

Indoor sculpture is an extremely important component of sculptural practice.  Artists will be able to create

site specific works to be housed in our small galleries which will be placed within Lorne Shop windows.

These galleries will define the space in which the sculpture sits, eliminating the conflict of products and

sculpture competing for space. The winner receives a $5,000 prize.

Performance Art

As a major component of the opening day events LS11 will be commissioning 3 performance art pieces by

Australia’s internationally renowned performance artists Stelarc, Anastasia Klose and Jill Orr. These artists

will create performance pieces which will respond to the Lorne environment working with a combination of

elements both natural and fabricated.
